A few years back I moved to a new city with a few friends. Having been accustomed to going skating in the winter in public parks we decided to head out on a Saturday afternoon and go to a local park for some outdoor skating. We had initially taken a cab there and were hoping to rent skates because a few of us didn’t have any. The park website had advertised that it had skates for rent on the weekends but upon arrival there was no one to be found in the park site office. Not a big deal, we ended up taking turns with one pair of skates. We didn’t plan to be there to long as it was -17 degrees Celsius and was a little later in the afternoon. So after about an hour we decided to head back home as the sun was starting to set and it was getting a lot colder. We called a cab to meet us at the front of the park and half an hour later there was still no cab and at this point it was already dark. The temperature had probably dropped another 5 degrees and we had no intention of being outside any longer, we called other cab companies who for some reason would tell us they would be right there but decided to never show up. We weren’t exactly familiar with the area so starting to walk back wasn’t an option. Another half an hour passed and this point it was really cold and our cell phones were all starting to die because of the cold, then off in the distance we saw a public transport bus and immediately gathered up all the changed we had to get on the damn thing because we couldn’t bare to stand outside for another minute. I doubt any cabs every showed up at the park and after that day no one has gone skating again.
